“Who is my neighbor?” Professor Erik Carter, PhD, of Vanderbilt University referenced Luke 10 when he posed this question to the attendees at the 14th Annual Marjorie Pay Hinckley Lecture last Friday. As we consider our neighbors, it’s important to realize that about 19 percent of the individuals within any community have an intellectual disability.
To help us truly love our neighbors as ourselves, Carter outlined 10 ways to help individuals with disabilities gain a sense of belonging in our communities, schools, and places of worship.
The McKay School’s Terisa Gabrielsen worked to secure Carter for this lecture and personally introduced him at the event.
